Current Research

Both Nottingham University and the SBRC are committed to a sustainable low-carbon future. Raising demand for plastics, especially in developing countries, poses a challenge for suppliers to satisfy the need in a sustainable way. Developing carbon-neutral and easily recyclable biopolymers is an integral part of this mission.

The BBSRC/EPSRC funded project revolves around metabolic engineering of Cupriavidus necator to produce precursors for plastic production from industrial waste gases, such as CO2.

This interdisciplinary initiative connects microbiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics and analytical methods for metabolomics.
