Abstract:
A common framework can be used to describe a wide variety of dynamics of interest for quantum walks, algorithms, and open systems, as well as classical hidden-Markov models (HMM). All these can be written as completely-positive trace-preserving dynamics (in discrete time for this talk), whose output of interest is a family of linear functionals of the state. We then leverage on linear system theory and an algebraic approach to realize a reduced model whose output matches the one of a target system. In doing this, we highlight the minimal resources needed to simulate a given process, probe its ``quantum-ness’’, and tackle an old open problem for HMM.
