I would like to thank the committee who have done a fantastic job organising RSC 2022. Nottingham is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in statistics and probability with research spanning areas such as computational statistics, machine learning, data-driven modelling, Bayesian computation, shape and object data analysis, and infectious disease modelling.

We look forward to welcoming delegates to RSC 2022 who will no doubt enjoy the vibrant atmosphere within the School.”

Paul Houston, Head of School and Professor of Computational and Applied Maths, Faculty of Science

The University of Nottingham is proud to host the 45th  Research Student's Conference in Probability and Statistics (RSC 2022).

Welcome to the RSC 2022 in Probability and Statistics

The RSC is an annual conference ran for PhD students, by PhD students.    The conference will take place from Monday 5th until Thursday the 8th of September 2022. The RSC allows students from across the world to network, present ideas and discuss their research in a friendly environment.

This year students who attend the RSC can attend both online and in person (if studying in the UK or Ireland). Along with presenting their research, participants will attend lectures from industry professionals, lecturers specialising in areas in probability or statistics and sponsors.

Residential packages are avialable from Sunday 4th of September for delegates travelling from longer distances. There will be a RSC Conference dinner on Tuesday 6th of September.  The Nottingham RSC committee will also be organising optional social events for the participating students!

If you have any queries regarding the RSC 2022, please contact us through the email

We look forward to seeing you in September!

Conference Aims

  • To provide a friendly environment in which participants can present their work and start a discussion regarding their research to a group of likeminded peers.
  • Allow researchers from across the UK and Ireland to network with others in their field.
  • To give professionals, who specialise in probability or statistics in both industry and education, the ability to share their current research ideas to participants.
  • To let students develop their skills in presenting, discuss their research and question others.

Research Context

The Research Students' Conference (RSC) in Probability and Statistics is an annual conference and is held at various universities across the UK.

Each year the organising committee consists of PhD students at the current hosts institution, this year the University of Nottingham, and attendance is open to all academic institutions across the UK and Ireland.

The conference encourages networking, sharing current research and discussing ideas. Not only will attendees hear from peers but lecturers and industry professionals at the top of their field, in topics such as Statistical machine learning, Autonomous systems, AI and experimental design.

By providing a friendly environment, the RSC will ensure that attendees will be knowledgeable of other work in the field and develop their skills in presenting and discussing their work.
