Adele graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BSc in Zoology and then returned as a mature student to complete an MSc (Distinction) in Applied Biomolecular Technology at the University of Nottingham in 2000. This was followed by a PhD at the University's School of Pharmacy in 2004. She then spent two years as a Research Fellow, before moving into research commercialisation (technology transfer), winning £1.2m to run the East Midlands-wide Innovation Fellowships programme. Adele also developed the Knowledge into Practice network for the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) - a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) initiative - bringing together researchers, clinicians and members of the public to share knowledge and perspectives about research and aspects of clinical practice. Adele has been with the Hearing research theme - now part of the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre - since July 2013 as their Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E) Manager. In that time, she has created, in collaboration with members of the public and staff from across research organisations in the East Midlands, the East Midlands Lay Assessor training programme and the East Midlands Sharebank. The Sharebank represent a novel model, based on reciprocation, for organisations - staff and patients/public - to share their knowledge and skills on PPI in research. Adele has also led in winning external funding for PPI work and PPI training development and is co-applicant on successful grant applications. Adele sits on a number of national and regional PPI working groups.
