Biography

I performed my undergraduate studies in Biochemistry. During this time, I became fascinated with neuroscience and decided to pursue graduate studies in applied neuroscience for which I was awarded a 3-year PhD Studentship from the Medical Research Council (MRC). I have a broad background in neuroscience, but the theme of systems neuroscience has been a passion throughout my academic career with postdoctoral fellowship positions in Clinical Neuroscience at King's College London (2012-2015) and Anaesthesia at Boston Children's Hospital (2015-2016). From 2016 I was joint faculty appointed in the Department of Anaesthesia at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School as Instructor of Anaesthetic Science. In 2019 I joined the University of Nottingham as NIHR BRC Senior Research Fellow in Pain Neuroscience.

Expertise Summary

My primary interests are studying neural plasticity in the human brain including structural and functional changes that occur in health and disease. I have a particular interest in homeostasis, pain, and the response to analgesia (pain relief). I am also interested in the signs and symptoms that accompany many clinical pain states. As a basic scientist my approach consists of combining advanced neuroimaging techniques with physiological and subjective behavioural measures to gain insight into the function of the central nervous system. My wider research goals are to deliver novel methods and techniques that can be used to translate research between experimental studies and clinical science, with a view to identifying novel treatment therapies, medical procedures, or diagnostics.

I am pleased to consider applications from prospective PhD students.
