Biography

Lisa graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School in 2009. She completed her general training in Liverpool, gaining membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK). She is undertaking dermatology specialist training in Glasgow. Lisa joined the CEBD in August 2020, taking time out of clinical training for research for one year, and continues to work as a clinical research fellow alongside her clinical training.

Lisa's research interest is vulval skin disease, specifically lichen sclerosus (LS). She was successful in obtaining a British Skin Foundation & British Association of Dermatologists Trainee Research Award in 2019. This involved a systematic review and cross-sectional study, investigating if there is an association between urinary incontinence and vulval LS in a female patient population from a clinical database. Her work has demonstrated that urinary incontinence in women with LS is 2.5 times more likely, compared to women with other vulval conditions. Further studies are needed to examine this association - it is unclear if incontinence or LS happens first.

In 2021, Lisa was awarded the British Society for the Study of Vulval Disease £10,000 Research Award. This will fund early preliminary work which help to inform a future RCT evaluating laser for vulval LS.

Lisa has co-written a chapter on vulvodynia in Treatment of Skin Disease 6th edition and is co-author of a Cochrane review. She is committed to education in the specialty of dermatology and has been awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She is a founding member of the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network (UK DCTN) Virtual Journal Club, which aims to improve critical appraisal skills in dermatology trainees http://www.ukdctn.org/journal-club/index.aspx.
