Biography

Bonnie Millar is Musculoskeletal Project Manager for the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre, NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre MSK Communications Lead and Recruitment Co-ordinator for the Pain Centre Versus Arthritis. Bonnie holds a B.A. and M.A. from Trinity College Dublin and a M.A. and PhD. from the University of Nottingham. She joined the NIHR Nottingham Hearing Biomedical Research Unit in 2014 to work on the QUIET-1 clinical trial, co-ordinating recruitment and trial activities. In 2016-7 Bonnie brought together her expertise in critical theory, research methodology, textual analysis and audit to facilitate the transfer of research data pertaining to studies conducted within the Tinnitus etiology and management research area into a single research data repository. In addition she has a proven record in scoping reviews, working as part of the Clinical Hearing Sciences team on literature reviews pertaining to Cisplatin and Carboplatin induced ototoxicity. Currently, she is co-ordinating a number of musculoskeletal and osteoarthritis studies, including the Investigating Musculoskeletal Health and Wellbeing Cohort Study. Bonnie is actively involved in disability studies, medical humanities, story-telling for health and qualitative research.

Expertise Summary

Bonnie has extensive knowledge of audit and compliance policies and procedures and ensures the correct guidelines are adhered to. She has delivered and supported a range of successful processes to improve quality assurance and to ensure data can be both reconciled and validated. She joined the NIHR Nottingham Hearing Biomedical Research Unit in 2014 to work on the multi-centre clinical trial QUIET-1 co-ordinating recruitment and trial activities, whilst maintaining the investigator site file.

She has authored a critical study of the Siege of Jerusalem, and publishes on alliterative poetry, medieval romances, gender theory, medical humanities and sound studies. Recent publications include a paper entitled "Hero or Jester: Gawain in Middle English Romances and Ballads" in Le Personnage de Gauvain dans la literature européenne du Moyen Âge ed. Marie-Françoise Alamichel, a chapter on "Key Critics,Concepts & Topics" in the Continuum Handbook of Medieval British Literature, "A Measure of Courtliness: Sir Gawain and the Carl of Carlisle" in Cultures Courtoises en Mouvement: Proceedings of the Thirteenth Congress of the International Society of Courtly Literature and contributions to the Facts on File Companion to Pre-1600 British Poetry.

Bonnie brought together her expertise in critical theory, research methodology, textual analysis and audit to facilitate the transfer of research data pertaining to studies conducted within the Tinnitus etiology and management research area into a single research data repository. In her current role Bonnie hopes to use her expertise in clinical trial co-ordination, recruitment and databases to facilitate the research in the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre Musculoskeletal Group and the Pain Centre Versus Arthritis.

Future research will focus on patient stories, the communication needs of those living with chronic illnesses recruitment into research studies and engaging the public with research.
