Dr Asiya Maula awarded an NIHR In-Practice Fellowship

Congratulations to Dr Asiya Maula who has been awarded an NIHR In-Practice Fellowship to work with Professors Denise Kendrick and Joe Kai (Division of Primary Care) on developing an intervention for weight loss in people with type 2 diabetes. Asiya is currently completing her Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) post, so it is great news that she has been awarded an In-Practice Fellowship, which will start in September.

Asiya will be reviewing the effectiveness of community based educational interventions targeting weight loss in adults aged 18- 75 years, who are overweight or obese (BMI >25) with a diagnosis of type II diabetes mellitus. This involves conducting a systematic review followed by a realist synthesis. These findings in conjunction with an exploration of psychological and behaviour change theory, PPI and stakeholder consultation will be used to design an intervention for weight loss in this group.
