The International Society of Breast Pathology (ISBP) hosted its first online masterclass on September 8, which drew attendance from 44 different countries.
Professor Emad Rakha of University of Nottingham and secretary of the ISBP organised the event, drawing together leading histopathologists and experts from England, Ireland, Singapore, USA and Portugal.
The online masterclass - An Update On Diagnostic Challenges in Breast Pathology – opened for registration at the end of July. All 500 places were snapped up in just four days.
It took place on 8 September with attendees joining from 44 countries, from Argentina and Australia to Sudan, Taiwan and UAE. Each eligible delegate received 4 CPD points from the Royal College of Pathologists.
Professors Fernando Schmitt (Chair of ISBP), Emad Rakha, Ian Ellis, Tan Puay Hoon, Cecily Quinn and Jorge Reis-Filho covered the latest WHO updates on breast tumour classification; approaches to the diagnosis of challenging lesions; and updates on the use of IHC and key molecular tests in breast pathology.
They were delighted with the event and the response from the delegates who found it “very informative”, “well presented” and the content “relevant and precise”.
In particular, the delegates fed back that they appreciated “the virtual setting and that they didn’t have to leave the office to attend such a valuable meeting.”
Commenting on the masterclass, Professor Rakha said: “I am delighted to that we were able to share our updates with so many pathologists. The COVID-19 situation has pushed us into moving to online courses which means we can reach so many more specialists across the world.
Following the incredible uptake of our first event, we are looking forward to arranging more in the near future, and we will shortly be advertising a new online format for our Nottingham Breast Pathology Masterclass event.”
