Today is a big day for us as we bid farewell to our incredible Dean and Head of School, Professor Brigitte Scammell! After 40 years of being a doctor, 26 years at Nottingham and 3 years as our Head of School, Professor Brigitte Scammell is retiring!

Brigitte's career has seen her become our first ever female Dean and Head of School and also the first female professor of Orthopaedics in the UK, in addition to supporting over 30 DM/PhD students plus countless BMedSci projects and personal tutees and more.

Brigitte has taught and presented research around the globe, served as the President of British Orthopaedic Research Society and on national committees including the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Foot and Ankle Society and the Surgical Advisory Committee.

We wish Brigitte all the very best with her retirement and thank her for her incredible service to the School, the University, and the field of orthopaedics at large. We'll miss her dearly but are glad she's going to be an Emeritus Professor.

The School is now in the process of finding an Interim Head of School before recruiting a permanent person for the role.
