Ben Young

Research Assistant, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences

Research Summary

I am interested in the study of psychological and behavioural processes in health and healthcare.

Current areas of research include:

  • The impact of lung cancer screening on smoking behaviour and health service use.
  • Factors that influence cancer screening uptake.
  • Mass media campaigns to reduce tobacco and alcohol consumption.
  • Behavioural 'nudge' interventions to improve efficiency and reduce waste in healthcare services.

Past research includes:

  • The prevention of unintentional injuries to children in the home.

I have also contributed to recent systematic reviews of the predictors of psychological harm in cancer screening, the intended outcomes of national tobacco control policies and uptake of cascade screening for familial hypercholesterolaemia.
