Biography

Dr Ellison received his medical degree (BMBS) from The University of Nottingham Medical School in 2006, having completed his BMedSci(Hons) in 2004. He completed the Foundation Programme and Psychiatry Specialty Training in the East Midlands and gained a PGDip in Mental Health Studies in 2011 He became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2013. Dr Ellison joined the University of Nottingham as a Clinical Assistant Professor of General Adult Psychiatry & Medical Education in February 2014. He became a Clinical Associate Professor of Medical Education in April 2017 and has also worked as a part time Consultant Psychiatrist in Substance Misuse since this time. Dr Ellison's interests within medical education include assessment, course design and student support & remediation. His teaching interests include psychiatry, addiction, professionalism and communication skills. He convenes the 'Introduction to Psychiatry' optional module for first year medical students and teaches on the MMedSci in Medical Education. Previously Director of e-Learning for the School of Medicine, Dr Ellison is currently Acting Director of Examinations & Assessments. He is involved in assessment at all levels of the undergraduate course and has acted as Lead Examiner for Clinical Phase 1 and Clinical Phase 3 examinations. He has supervised and marked BMedSci projects in mental health and medical education. Dr Ellison is also member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists' MRCPsych Standard Setting Panel and is a GMC Associate, acting as an examiner for the PLAB 2 exam.
