My doctoral research interest is the physical and mental health impact of job insecurity on employees affected by cardiovascular disease during periods of economic recession. My study is developed around these key points and aims to use European datasets with a view to generalise findings across European Union countries and inform future policy development in this area.
Economic recessions affecting employment levels and financial security in the European working population are now a harsh reality as the European economy is under constant fluctuation. Job insecurity is a facet of potential unemployment that is currently of great interest to social scientists due to its growing impact on health. The proposed doctoral research is underpinned by the biopsychosocial model of health (Engel, 1980) and seeks to address this gap by investigating levels of perceived job insecurity and their link to health behaviours and health outcomes through a comparative analysis across the 27 European Union (EU) member states, with a special focus on employees affected from cardiovascular disease (CVD).
This study* is novel as it will explore the relationship between job insecurity and perceived employability on health and well-being as well as the role of employment protection policies at national and organisational level from a European perspective. Theoretically underpinned by the biopsychosocial model of health, the fundamental aim of this study is to provide cognizance and generalise knowledge on the relationship between job insecurity and people's health all over Europe, across countries with different socioeconomic conditions. The desirable outcome is to influence future policy making to promote well-being and optimal health and avoid the negative consequences of job insecurity and CVD in Europe. The study will also support the implementation of the WHO revised Action Plan for NCDs prevention and control (2013).

My past research was in the field of occupational and health psychology. The aim of my research was to identify psychosocial predictors of assertive intentions of non-smoking employees in various small-and-medium enterprises (SME) in Greece, implementing legislation against Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS).
