Health Protection and Influenza Research

Has research interests spanning a broad range of communicable diseases areas, but specialises in respiratory virus infections, of which influenza is the key strategic focus.

Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre Dedicated to delivering high quality, patient-centred research, in order to advance knowledge and improve health outcomes for people with respiratory conditions such as Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD and IPF) and Lung Infection.
Nottingham Molecular Pathology Node To train the next generation of molecular pathologists by meeting NHS/industry needs in the genomic medicine era.
Nottingham Respiratory Research Unit To improve the health of millions of people by translating world-leading respiratory research into breakthrough treatments, innovative technologies and new medicines.
Paediatric Respiratory Medicine To improve the health of children with respiratory diseases.
Respiratory Epidemiology Focuses on the aetiology and natural history of asthma/allergic disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis and hereditary telangiectasia and delivery of care for people with lung cancer, using e-health databases and collection of original data.
Respiratory Research To understand major lung conditions, e.g. asthma, and other health problems to improve patient healthcare.
Smoking in Pregnancy To reduce smoking rates in pregnancy and to prevent women from returning to smoking after they have had their babies, develop and test effective methods for helping pregnant women to quit smoking and prevent relapse after childbirth, and influence health policies.
Tobacco and Alcohol Research To reduce tobacco and alcohol related harm by assessing risks, examining and improving cessation strategies, developing harm reduction strategies for smokers and drinkers, and engaging the scientific community and the public to promote findings to users and policymakers.
