Biography

I graduated in 2012 from University of Bologna with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy of Language. I received my MA in 2014 with a thesis about the role of creativity in musical transcription. In 2014 I also graduated in piano from the Conservatory of Bologna.

Current Research

What evidence can a performer provide in claiming that her interpretation of a musical work is authentic? My research aims at giving a compelling answer to this question. I suggest that the notion of 'authenticity' in musical performance needs to be re-examined, considering to a greater extent the outcome of the relation between performers and public. In order to do so, I propose a novel account for the ontology of musical work which has the aim to assess the prevalence of musical practices and which, at the same time, is grounded on a solid ontological basis. As my research is aimed at an enquiry of both the conceptual and the pragmatic implications of the point at issue, I plan to work out a resolution by taking into account not only the theoretical background in which this problem arises, but also cases of study in the musical environment at present day. Currently, I am conducting my research in both the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Music.

Future Research

My main interests lie in the fields of aesthetics and philosophy of art. I am currently researching on the topic of authenticity in musical performance. In my dissertation, I propose a novel account for the ontology of music that can help in conjugating the relevance of actual musical practices to ontological soundness. I am also interested in how aspects of metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of language can help to shed light on the general investigation on art and artifacts. My future research plans include the role of intentionality in musical composition and the consequence that it bears on the development of AI within the musical sector.
