Simulation Systems Group

{IMAGES} Description

Simulation is a key method for analysing potential outcomes, particularly in large infrastructure or civil engineering projects, where the risks and costs of failure or accident are extreme. The NCI is involved in a number of projects utilising simulation techniques for the modelling of various aspects of infrastructure projects ranging from the analysis of structural health to the modelling of design changes.

Simulation is used throughout NCI’s research. This group provides a focus for this activity. Its current areas of interest include:

  • Simulation of structural design and its integration with the design process
  • The use of simulation and games for teaching and training

  • Technical simulations of structural behaviour

  • Simulation applied to coasts, rivers and estuaries
