The NEWS‑HEAT study is a collaborative research project focused on improving neonatal care in hospitals across Kenya. The study aims to:

  • Reduce the number of babies presenting with hypothermia at the time of admission to their next point of care (such as the newborn unit or postnatal ward)
  • Improve outcomes for pre-term and low‑birth‑weight newborns in Kenyan hospitals

This is a collaboration between Professor Eleanor Mitchell from the University of Nottingham and Dr Jalemba Aluvaala from the University of Nairobi. The project is also supported by the Preemie Love Foundation and other Co–Investigators from the University of Nottingham, University of Nairobi and hospitals across Nairobi. The Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) and the Kenya Paediatric Research Consortium (Keprecon) and are coordinating the study.
