The history of British colonialism in Southeast Asia during the twentieth century, particularly in Burma and Malaya. He is especially interested in the history of modern Britain and the British Empire, business history, mining history, and the history of space and place.
David is also part of the Cultures of Occupation in Twentieth Century Asia (COTCA) research group.
