Scheme Details

Funding

Up to £10k of funding is available for pump priming projects, where a significant amount of experimental method development is required and the project is considered speculative or novel in nature and not yet ready for external funding applications.

Requests for funding should include access charges for instruments at the nmRC.  The project must include the use of at least one instrument from within the Cryogenic and Analytical Transfer suite within the nmRC. Consumables and reasonable costs for transport of materials and items to improve accessibility for international collaborators can also be included in the budget (expected to be less than 10% of the total amount requested).

We anticipate to fund at least five projects. All projects must be complete by 31st May 2022.

Eligibility

The Principal Investigator for the project must currently be working at the University of Nottingham (staff on fixed term contracts may apply as long as the contract ends after 31st July 2022). Academics (at any stage of career) and postdoctoral researchers are eligible to apply.

A co-investigator(s) on the project must include an international collaborator. More than one co-investigator may be included on the application. Please note that a collaborator within the University of Nottingham China or Malaysia campus is not considered an international collaborator within this scheme.

If you are unsure whether you or your project meets the eligibility criteria, please contact nanocat@nottingham.ac.uk.

How to apply

The application form for NanoCAT can be downloaded here:

NanoCAT 2021 Application Form

Completed applications should be sent to nanocat@nottingham.ac.uk by 5pm on Friday 26th November.

Please note that you must discuss your costings with a member of the nmRC prior to submitting an application.  We also highly recommend that you discuss your project with the member/s of staff who runs the instrument to determine feasibility of the project within the timescale.

Please note that you do not need to complete a costing in RIS for a NanoCAT project. If you do wish to do so, please create a standalone budget.
