As an internationally recognised centre for professional development and training, the School of Education is committed to providing high-quality postgraduate taught courses that are perfectly tailored to meet your needs.

Our courses provide qualifications and professional development for teachers, educational leaders, and those in the caring professions, based in the UK and internationally.

We offer flexible part-time, weekend and twilight courses, as well as online modes of study, which allow you to fit your study around work and personal commitments. You will be supported through tutorials, as well as by email, video-conferencing, telephone and post. In addition, the library's electronic facilities can be accessed from anywhere in the world.

The school has a number of research centres, which are directly impacting educational policy. We offer first-class research supervision and training, and have an international reputation for quality and excellence. All students are linked to an appropriate research centre and benefit from working with specialists.

Teacher training

We offer several routes to achieving Qualified Teacher Status, and our Initial Teacher Education provision has been rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. Our courses are continually evolving to reflect current developments and are taught at masters-level, so can contribute towards MA Education and other specialist masters.

Academic English preparation and support

If you require additional support to take your language skills to the required level, you may be able to attend a presessional course at the Centre for English Language Education, which is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK.

Students who successfully complete the presessional course to the required level can progress to postgraduate study without retaking IELTS or equivalent. On many of our courses, you could be eligible for a joint offer, which means you will only need to apply for your visa once.
