Geography taught courses

The School of Geography is a leading international centre of postgraduate teaching and research. We provide a supportive study environment with small-group teaching and tutorials.

Postgraduate students have full access to school facilities, including computing, 3D visualisation and geoscience laboratories, and a resource centre.

Our MSc Environmental Leadership and Management is one of the first courses of its kind in the UK. It is ideal for anyone who aspires to be a leader who can generate positive change for the environment, both within organisations and broader society. The course offers an inspirational curriculum that includes the opportunity to gain an ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management, as well as the chance to specialise in a specific area of environmental challenge such a climate risk, water resources or sustainable ecosystems.

We have internationally recognised strengths across the discipline, with research across our UK, China and Malaysia campuses exploring:

Career opportunities are varied and you can participate in projects with commercial companies during your time with us. Recent graduates have gone on to work in consultancy, data management and analysis, engineering, higher education, and local and central government offices. Many also go into further research.

Academic English preparation and support

If you require additional support to take your language skills to the required level, you may be able to attend a presessional course at the Centre for English Language Education, which is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK.

Students who successfully complete the presessional course to the required level can progress to postgraduate study without retaking IELTS or equivalent. You could be eligible for a joint offer, which means you will only need to apply for your visa once.
