Biography

I graduated in 2012 after completing a part-time BSc (hons) in Psychology with The Open University. During my studies I worked full-time in a community pharmacy. Whilst studying a part-time MSc in Health Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University, I worked as a Medicines Management Technician for Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group - working with GP practices and advising on prescribing. I was promoted to Clinical Systems Lead, where I developed and led on new ways of utilising GP clinical systems to promote formulary choices and safe prescribing.

In 2015 I was seconded to work at The University of Sheffield as a Research Assistant. Whilst working for The University of Sheffield I was involved in two areas of research: (1) promoting healthy behaviours for adolescents and (2) investigating relationships between illness perceptions, psychological wellbeing and clinical factors on the quality of life for young people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

My academic and work experiences sparked an interest in a research career and in 2016, I was successful in gaining a full-time PhD studentship at The University of Nottingham, School of Pharmacy.

Current Research

I am in the final year of my PhD at the University of Nottingham, School of Pharmacy. I am utilising a large United Kingdom electronic health record database - the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD), and linked Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) to explore trends in opioid prescribing, the incidence of bone fractures and, using self-controlled case series methodology, the effect of timing and dose of opioid use on the risk of bone fractures.
