Biography

Joe completed his undergraduate BSc (Hons) degree in Pharmacology from the University of Leeds. This included his research project under Dr Lars Jeuken to develop nanoparticles for intracellular redox sensing of cancer cells. As part of Joe's undergraduate degree he gained one year industrial experience as a formulation scientist at Neusentis, Pfizer (Cambridge, UK). His work involved the design and development of an in vitro transfer dissolution tool that would be used to accurately determine the solubility of weakly basic compounds within the gastrointestinal tract. Joe was also awarded the 'Covance Best Pharmacology Student' during his time at Leeds.

Joe joined the CDT in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines team in September 2015. As part of Joe's training year he worked with Dr Andrew Hook & Dr David Scurr to better understand 'matrix effects' seen within ToF-SIMS analysis. Joe's second training project took place at MedImmune, AstraZeneca (Cambridge, UK) to aid development of an automated procedure for assessment of lyophilised protein materials.

Joe is now currently undertaking his PhD research in Pavel Gershkovich's group at the University of Nottingham. Joe is working to develop a dynamic, bio relevant flow dissolution test method for assessing taste-masked drug delivery systems.
