Research Fellow, Faculty of Science
Marina graduated in Chemistry from the Universitat de Barcelona in 2010. As an undergraduate student, she had the opportunity to work for a month on a short project in the Group of Magnetism and Functional Molecules, with Dr Albert Figuerola, working in the synthesis and characterisation of nanoparticles with magnetic and plasmonic properties. She spent the last semester of her degree as an Erasmus student at the University of Aberdeen, where she did her final year research project in the Solid State Chemistry research group of Dr Abbie C. McLaughlin. It consisted in the synthesis and characterisation of Ruddlesden popper phases. In summer 2010, she was awarded a Summer Fellowship to carry out a short research project at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) within the Photomagnetic Materials and Bioinorganic Models for Energy Applications group of Prof Jose Ramon Galan-Mascaros. Next, she started her PhD at the University of Bath in September 2014 in the group of Prof Sofia Pascu, and with Dr Ian Eggleston as a second supervisor. During her PhD, Marina worked in the synthesis of new multimodal probes for medical (PET/ SPECT and MRI) and optical imaging applications. She completed her doctorate in June 2018 and she then undertook a short casual research assistant position in Prof Sofia Pascu's group. Marina joined Dr. Mischa Zelzer's group as a postdoctoral researcher in surface-directed supramolecular self-assembly in September 2018.
