I joined the School of Pharmacy as a Technician in August 2013.
Previously I have been employed as a Laboratory Technician at The Lubrizol Corporation in Derbyshire carrying out QA testing on engine oil additives and as a Forensic Technician at Environmental Scientifics Group confirming the identity of suspected controlled drugs seized by police forces.
Prior to these appointments I completed a BSc in Forensic Science at the University of Derby where I achieved a First Class degree with hons. and received an award for Best Forensic Chemist.
I also have a strong IT background as I worked in this field for ten years prior to starting my degree. This included seven years working for Experian PLC as a Command Analyst providing second-line IT support and ensuring that mainframe batch jobs successfully ran to completion.
My main role at the University of Nottingham is to provide training, expert knowledge and maintenance on microscope systems within the building, differential scanning calorimetry, rheometry and the instruments within the school's new Spectroscopy Suite. The Spectroscopy Suite contains instruments providing a range of spectroscopic techniques including FT-IR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, raman spectroscopy and NanoDrop instruments.
I also provide technical support and user training for the Biacore and Pioneer SPR instrumentation, water contact angle systems, high pressure gas equipment and hazardous waste disposal.
