Research in the Division of Molecular Therapeutics and Formulation
Specific themes are shown below.
Molecular therapeutics include peptides, proteins, antibodies, nucleic acids, gene constructs, whole cells and hybrids/conjugates of these agents. Sub-groups within the Division focus on synthesis of new materials to deliver these agents to target sites, study how these materials transport in the body and in sub-cellular compartments, measure how different drugs are released from formulations in simulated and real biological environments and evaluate their efficacy in in vitro models and in complex diseases.
Other groups in the Division investigate the regulation of genes implicated in these complex diseases, which include cancers, neurodegenerative disorders and inflammatory disease, evaluate the mechanisms by which new drugs might treat these pathologies and study immunological processes which alter disease onset and progression. Projects are multidisciplinary and cover the first stages in identifying therapeutic targets all the way through to developing formulations which deliver drugs to those targets.
