Biography

Khalid is currently pursuing his PhD at the School of Politics and International Relations where he is a member of Asia Research Institute. Prior to starting his doctoral research at the School of Politics and International Relations, Khalid earned his Masters with distinction in International Diplomacy from University of East Anglia.

As part of his Masters, he has also undertaken postgraduate courses in international business organised by Nyenrode Business Universiteit, Amsterdam.

Research Summary

Khalid's research focuses on the dynamics of economic diplomacy and explores the evolution of practices and actors in economic diplomacy.

He has a particular interest in the Western approaches to economic diplomacy and the current practices in Asia. He primarily focuses on China and Pakistan where the Beijing approach is guiding the conduct of their bilateral economic relations. Khalid's research examines the current Sino-Pakistani practices and approaches manifest in their joint management of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor nested at the heart of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Within this context, he is interested in the processes of domestic decision-making on economic issues, international negotiations, diplomatic methods, instruments, military diplomacy, and the Asian multilateral financial institutions.
