Current Research

My PhD research focuses on the impact of traumatic life events on people's mental health. In particular, I will be investigating whether war-related memories have an influence on suicidal thoughts among veteran populations in the UK. I will evaluate the risk factors and the triggers for these thoughts in my first-year project. I am also interested in Post-traumatic Growth (PTG), positive personality changes after challenging life events. One of my PhD projects aims to determine whether PTG has a protective function for self-harm and suicide in veterans who have left the service recently.

My research is supervised by Prof Ellen Townsend and Dr Laura Blackie and is funded by Turkish Ministry of National Education.
