Ana Valverde Cano
Rights Lab Research Fellow in Antislavery Law and Policy
Dr. Ana Valverde Cano (School of Law) works as part of the Rights Lab's Law and Policy Programme to analyse antislavery governance globally and in context, and to develop roadmaps for more effective law and policy on paper and in practice. This work includes the expansion and operationalisation of a database of domestic legislation and international obligations of all UN Member States in this area, the development of new models for effective and successful anti-slavery governance, and the establishment of indicators for the key variables. Her expertise is in the intersection of human rights law, criminal law and other areas of law (including migration), and she has worked alongside NGOs to provide first legal assistance to newly arrived migrants and asylum seekers. Previously she has completed research on topics that include the legal regulation of contemporary forms of slavery within international, European and national law.
