Rights Lab Research Fellow in Antislavery Resilient Cities
Phil Northall (Sociology and Social Policy) works as part of the Rights Lab Communities and Society Programme to understand and advance local responses to modern slavery. This includes work to build a slavery-resilient cities index that takes an asset-based approach to understanding how communities become slavery-free and slavery-proof. It also includes close collaboration with multi-agency partnerships on testing and evaluating transferable local responses to the structural issues that create vulnerabilities to exploitation and slavery. His research background is in urban processes, local economic development, and community engagement, and his PhD explored the economic sustainability of future cities, specifically assessing the potential for 'sharing economy' platforms to deliver local public services and social value under austerity.
