Secondments

Local health trusts and other health services need people with relevant skills to help with the coronavirus efforts.

To be seconded from all or a proportion of your University duties, apply using the appropriate form below and we will prepare a secondment agreement for you.

Before registering, you must contact your line manager or supervisor for permission and also ensure you have permission from your Head of School.

If you are an international staff member, email the international office first to clarify any visa implications.

We are seconding staff to the NHS for up to their full-time contract hours. If you wish to work hours in excess of that, you must register with the Trust’s bank because you will not be covered under the terms of your secondment agreement.

What will my secondment agreement include?

The secondment agreement will provide:

  • clarity over your working hours and the work you will be carrying out
  • confirmation that your continuous employment service with the University is maintained
  • obligations from the Trust with respect to providing you with as safe a working environment as is possible in the circumstances, including the provision of equipment
  • a specific indemnity provision for illness and injury arising from an act or omission by the Trust or their staff or third parties, in addition to the usual clinical negligence provisions
  • clarity on how your personal data is processed and shared in compliance with GDPR
  • a one week notice provision to end the secondment arrangement if necessary
  • clarity as to how the University will be reimbursed for the salary which it will continue to pay to you as normal, although you are released from your duties for the University for the period of the secondment

I am a doctor

We are looking for doctors to support the NHS by taking up clinical duties. We are prioritising those who are GMC registered already, but if you are not currently registered, you may still be able to help.

We are seeking clinically qualified and registered nurses, midwives and allied health professionals who would like to be seconded back into a clinical area to support the NHS.

We are looking for respiratory physiotherapists to assist on critical care or step down wards with past experience of advanced respiratory practice. Also, non-respiratory physiotherapists with acute adult ward experience in the last two to three years to assist with patients’ mobilisation and discharge planning.

We need ocupational therapists and dieticians with experience in the last two to three years to assist with acute in-patient ward care across a broad range of specialities. We can support with acute care refresher skills training as required.

I have technical skills

In the first instance, we are looking for people to help with diagnostic testing within the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. We are prioritising anyone with prior CL3 training and diagnostic lab or virology experience, but we will need people with general CL2 molecular biology – particularly qPCR – experience as we upscale.

I am a pharmacist

Registered pharmacists or registered pharmacy technicians that practise part-time or have recently –within the last two to three years – moved from clinical practice into academia are most welcome to volunteer to support pharmacy colleagues in both primary and secondary care settings.
