Biography
Dr. Chunwei Zhang is an associate research fellow (a title equivalent to associate Professor) of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China, and is now working in Prof. Richard Leach's team as an academic visitor at the University of Nottingham. He graduated with a BSc(Eng) in Mechanical Engineering from Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Qingdao in 2010, China, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2017 (indeed, his research mainly focused on an optical 3D measurement technique during his PhD study). He then went on to work at Xi'an Jiaotong University as a postdoctoral fellow, and was nominated to be an associate research fellow in July 2021.
At present, he pays part of his attention to the theoretical and applied research of an optical 3D measurement technique, fringe projection profilometry (FPP), and most of the rest attention to investigating the point clouds processing techniques to enable the measured point clouds better serve the industrial requirements. He has put forward some methods contributing to enhancing the accuracy, robustness and efficiency of FPP. Most of these methods have already been published in journals such as Applied Optics, Optics Letters, Measurement Science and Technology, and also been applied for patents. His work has been funded by 8 research grants by now.
