PhD Student,
Investigation and Optimisation of Electrical Discharge Coating Technology
Electrical Discharge Coating (EDC) is a surface coating method based on the mechanism of material transfer using multiple electrical discharges from a tool to a workpiece electrode submerged in a dielectric fluid to achieve the desired coating properties. The process is not yet fully understood however, hindering the use of EDC in Industry. The basis of this PhD project will be in the investigation of the underlying mechanisms of coating formation, as well as the effects of the materials used and optimisation of machining parameters to achieve the desired coating characteristics and improve process productivity.
