Luca Raimondi

Researcher in RFW (Rotary Friction Welding), Faculty of Engineering

Luca Raimondi is a PhD Researcher Student at the University of Nottingham where he work together the Rolls-Royce friction welding department to develop tooling systems for RFW (Rotary Friction Welding).

Luca Raimondi received his Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2014 from the University of Bologna with full marks with honors. From 2014 to 2016 he worked as CAD and PLM Administrator at Marposs.

Expertise Summary

Luca Raimondi during his Master's Degree thesis studied in depth investment casting and had the opportunity to gain precious experience in the numerical simulation of the process.

In his work as CAD and PLM administrator, Luca Raimondi became fluent in the use and administration of sotware PLM (PTC Windchill) and CAD (PTC Creo). In this job he also gained some experience in system amisnitration of Windows and Unix OS and in programming (Java, Batch scripting, Bash scripting).

The PhD project is gaving him the opportunity to gain valuable experience in RFW, FEM simulation, fixturing and mechanical design.

Research Summary

The design of high performance rotary friction tooling systems for the manufacture of next-generation aero-engine components through the application of process modelling.

Past Research

Numerical simulation of the investment casting process.
