The Digital Manufacturing Training System for SMEs (Digit-T) project will address this by creating a coherent training system that provides an overview of Digital Manufacturing aimed at helping SMEs understand what Digital Manufacturing is, the associated terminology, the expected benefits, and at identifying application areas and use cases in their own companies.

This training system will comprise a free online interactive e-learning platform and an open access reference book. Platform and book material will initially be created in English and subsequently translated into Italian and Spanish.

Summary

The manufacturing industry is currently witnessing a transformation as it increasingly moves towards Digital Manufacturing – often known as Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, factory of the future. It offers opportunities for companies to develop new products and ways of working while reducing costs. However, many SMEs struggle to access understandable and useful information about Digital Manufacturing.

The project is split into 3 distinct parts:

  • Survey of user needs: At the start of the project a robust analysis of industrial needs will be undertaken with representatives from partner countries. The results of this survey will guide the definition of the structure and contents of the e-learning platform and the book.
  • E-learning platform development: The contents of the interactive e-learning platform will be prepared in English and thoroughly tested by representative companies. Feedback will be obtained on the content of the platform, as well as on its usability.   The obtained feedback from this initial testing will be incorporated into a further release of the platform, prior to translation into Italian and Spanish.
  • Book development: Alongside the development of the e-learning platform, an open access book will also be developed, which will allow the reader to acquire a deeper knowledge of the e-learning platform contents. Initially the book will be prepared in English and then peer reviewed among the partners before being translated.
