Advanced Materials Research Group

The Biomaterials sub-group is uniquely equipped with its own cell culture facilities, within the Faculty of Engineering. The main focus of this area is on exploring the chemical, physical and biological interactions during in vitro cyto-compatibility assessment of new or modified materials, including patterned and functionalised surfaces.

The cell-material surface interactions focuses on the relationship between material surface properties, protein adsorption and cell adhesion and function. The main aims of this work are to elucidate novel molecular events occurring in cells contacting material surfaces.
