Title: NAFLD: The Invisible Epidemic - Mechanisms of Insulin Resistance and Effect of L-carnitine treatment

Synopsis: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) affects 1 in 4 people in the general population. It is the leading cause of chronic liver disease in industrialised countries and presents a major global health and economic challenge. Despite urgent need, approved treatment options for NAFLD are lacking. This research aims to underpin the interaction between liver and skeletal muscle in generating whole-body insulin resistance, and to establish whether L-carnitine could be an effective treatment for NAFLD.
