The PMN research group is part of the Division of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience within the School of Life Sciences, here at the University of Nottingham.
In partnership with the Medical Research Council and Versus Arthritis, we’ve built a centre of excellence around the study of human physiology, nutrition, muscle metabolism and musculoskeletal diseases. With our outstanding facilities in the David Greenfield Human Physiology Unit, we are able to conduct world-leading investigations into metabolic regulation, with our team of human volunteers.
As a collaborative research community, we’ve built close links with our clinical colleagues at the University of Nottingham’s Graduate Medical School in Derby, as well as Nottingham and Leicester Hospital's. We are also a core part of the MRC-Versus Arthritis Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research, the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis Research Versus Arthritis, and the Nottingham NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.

We currently have a wide range of research studies ongoing and a currently recruiting volunteers for:
The role of a synbiotic in modulating host physiology via the gut micorbiome (Kefir Study)
A randomised, double blinded, crossover study, using sodium MRI to study sodium balance in abdominal organs and muscle in response to the effects of saline and plasma-lyte infusions (Sodium Study)
The effect of prolonged overnight fast on postprandial energy metabolism and skeletal muscle protein synthesis in healthy humans(TRF Study)
