Doctoral researcher,
Malcolm is a current PhD researcher in the FLUTE (Fluids & Thermal engineering) research group, and a member of the powertrain research Centre. Malcolm gained a 1st class in BEng Mechanical engineering from Coventry university in 2018; during his undergraduate studies he also undertook a year in industry with Aston Martin and worked in the quality and product development divisions (including involvement of the DB11 launch and pre-launch prototype validation of the Vantage (gen 2) and DBS Superleggera).
Malcolm joined Nottingham university in 2018 to complete his masters studies graduating with Distinction in the MSc Mechanical Engineering in 2019 including having achieved the highest research project score in his cohort. His masters included specialist taught modules in the automotive sector (as well as the aerospace and energy sectors); and his masters thesis focused on analytical modeling of hybrid vehicle powertrains.
After finishing his masters project Malcolm joined the powertrain research Centre at Nottingham under the supervision of Professor Alasdair Cairns. Malcolm's PhD focuses on electric & hybrid vehicle technology including thermal management of electric motor-generator units, batteries, recharging infrastructure & HVAC systems. The research includes vehicle modeling and simulation, experimental design & evaluation, and future concept evaluation.
