Make or break: constructing molecules using transition metal catalysis

Location
School of Chemistry, X1
Date(s)
30/01/2019 (17:00-18:00)
Description
make-or-break-lecture-735

Catalysis opens up new pathways to synthesise functional molecules required by society, and provides new opportunities to learn about fundamental chemical reactivity.

This inaugural lecture gave an overview of research conducted by the Lam group in the use of transition metals to catalyse new chemical reactions, and described the people, influences and events that shaped the research direction over time.

Speaker: Prof Hon Wai Lam

Prof Hon Wai Lam is the GlaxoSmithKline Chair of Sustainable Chemistry. He joined the School of Chemistry in 2013 and alongside his research is the Course Director for MSc Green and Sustainable Chemistry. Prof Lam's research is focussed on developing new catalytic reactions for organic synthesis.
