The Widening Participation and Outreach Team leads the University's work to engage learners from less advantaged backgrounds in education and support their progression to higher education, including the University of Nottingham. The Team delivers over 80,000 places on more than 3,400 outreach activities each year. We support measures across the student lifecycle relating to admissions, success, financial support and progression.
I'm part of the Primary & Partnerships Team. We deliver primary outreach activities for 5-11 year olds both on campus and in schools. My role within the team is to manage a variety of outreach projects to help raise the aspirations of Primary aged children to Higher Education. I am primarily involved in running the Discovery Day programme, which supports learning in local schools. Our projects are for schools in areas where children would not typically progress to university. They are designed to:
- increase children's awareness of higher education
- raise their aspirations for the future
- enhance their interest in learning
I also work in partnership with the education charity IntoUniversity, supporting mentoring and outreach activities to primary and secondary aged pupils.
We work with school teachers, pupils, university colleagues and student volunteers. You can find out more about what we do here: www.nottingham.ac.uk/go/primary
