High Achievers' Summer School FAQs

Here is a list of questions that are frequently asked about the High Achievers' Summer School:

Will I just be studying my subject for the whole summer school?
You'll spend a good amount of time studying your subject while you're with us but that’s not all you'll have the opportunity to do. The High Achievers' Summer School programme is very varied and you'll participate in lots of interesting and helpful non-academic sessions as well as studying your subject.

Where will I stay during the summer school?

For the duration of the High Achievers’ Summer School you will live in one of our catered halls of residence on University Park. Further information about which hall you will be staying in will be sent to you closer to the time of the summer school.

How much will it cost me to attend the summer school?
Nothing – the High Achievers’ Summer School is free to attend, including accommodation and catering for the entire time you’re with us. The only thing you will have to cover is the cost of travel to and from the University.

How do I apply for the High Achievers’ Summer School?
To apply for the High Achievers’ Summer School you need to complete our online application form. More information about applying can be found on the Apply now page.

I don’t have 8 GCSEs at grade A or above, can I still apply?

You can still apply for the High Achievers’ Summer School, although we will prioritise applicants who have 8 GCSEs at grade A or above. Last year we had lots of applicants who met or exceeded these entry requirements, so it will depend on the strength of the cohort as to whether we will consider your application.

Am I eligible to apply for the High Achievers’ Summer School if I go to an independent school?

Yes, the High Achievers’ Summer School is open to all high-achieving Year 12 students studying in schools and colleges across the UK.

I'm not sure whether the University of Nottingham is right for me yet, can I still apply for the High Achievers' Summer School?

Of course, you don't have to know that you definitely want to study at the University of Nottingham to apply to the summer school. If you've heard about the University and are interested in finding out more, the summer school could be the perfect opportunity to decide whether we're right for you.

Will I benefit from having attended the summer school if I apply to the University of Nottingham?

Yes – if you successfully complete the High Achievers’ Summer School, apply to study a relevant course at the University of Nottingham and make us your firm choice on UCAS, you will receive an unconditional offer to study with us.

If I participate in the Music strand but later choose to study History of Art at university, will I be eligible to receive an unconditional offer for History of Art at the University of Nottingham?

Unfortunately not. You will only be eligible to receive an unconditional offer through the High Achievers’ Summer School scheme if you decide to apply for a course directly related to your subject strand. You can see the full list of courses where the unconditional offer is applicable for each strand in the subject boxes on the About page.
