High Achievers' Summer School

The High Achievers' Summer School is an opportunity for high achieving Year 12 students from across the UK to experience student life at the University of Nottingham.

As part of the summer school you will attend academic taster sessions, take part in social activities, and meet new people whilst staying in one of our catered halls of residence. You can download our provisional programme.


Is it for you?

If you are currently in Year 12 and are interested in studying at the University, then this summer school could be for you. To be eligible to apply for the summer school you must:

  • Have a minimum of eight GCSEs at grade A or above (or equivalent, where grade A is equivalent to grade 7 for new GCSEs)
  • Be under 18 at the time of the summer school
  • Attend a school or college in the UK

You will be able to select which subject strand you would like to apply for when completing your application form. In 2018 we are offering the following subjects:

History of Art 
Additional requirements: You must be studying no more than two A levels from art and design, design and technology, drama and theatre studies, film studies, fine art, textiles, and photography.
If you participate in the History of Art strand, the unconditional offer is applicable for History of Art and History of Art and English
Modern Languages
Please note that for the Modern Languages strand you will be required to select which language stream you would like to follow. We are offering language streams in French, German and Spanish.
Additional requirements: You must be studying an A level in your chosen language stream (French, German or Spanish).
If you participate in the Modern Languages strand, the unconditional offer is applicable for these selected courses
Additional requirements: You must be studying an A level in Music OR an A level in Music Technology and have Grade 5 Theory (ABRSM) OR have Grade 8 Performance (ABRSM, LCM, Trinity, Rockschool) and Grade 5 Theory (ABRSM).
If you participate in the Music strand, the unconditional offer is applicable for Music, Music and Music Technology and Music and Philosophy.

Further details 

The High Achievers’ Summer School will be taking place from Sunday 1 July to Wednesday 4 July 2018. It is free to attend, you will only be required to cover the cost of travel to and from the University. 

If you successfully complete the summer school programme, apply to study a relevant course at the University and make us your firm choice on UCAS, you will receive an unconditional offer to study with us. The full list of eligible courses for each subject strand can be found in the subject information boxes above.  In order to be made an offer you will need to be studying the required subjects for the course you apply for.

Applications are now closed and decisions will be communicated in April.
