KTP for academics

KTPs can raise the profile of an academic, as successful projects can gain a significant amount of press. Projects provide an opportunity to identify new research themes.

This experience can feed back into teaching, particularly in the form of case studies. This helps to maintain the relevance of course material.

KTPs can also result in student placements.

KTPs provide a rewarding ongoing collaboration with businesses, and academics taking part gain several benefits, including:

  • £5,000 of funding per KTP year is allocated to the Lead Academic’s research account.
  • Knowledge is applied to important business issues; this can help to validate academic research.
  • The University classes KTPs as research (R-coded)
  • KTPs usually result in a number of papers and conference presentations.
  • KTPs contribute to the Research Excellence Framework (Impact case study)
