Passionate about your sport? Sport in Schools is a programme offering a series of introductory sessions in one sport to local schoolchildren in Nottingham. You'll have the opportunity to get work with young people in your local community, developing key skills and experience for your future career.

What is the Sport in Schools programme?

Passionate about your sport and would like to share it with other? Sport in Schools is a programme offering a series of introductory sessions in one sport to local schoolchildren in Nottingham. The sessions are tailored by the student leaders who deliver them, so you can implement your own ideas.

Volunteers on our Sport for Good programme will be asked to;

  • Deliver a minimum of 6 weekly 2-hour sessions in a Nottingham primary or secondary school (or a whole day of activity).
  • With our Sports Volunteer Officer's support, plan and design your sessions in advance.
  • Introduce the basics of your sport to the young people in your group. 
  • Attend a training session at the beginning of the academic year or Term 2.

The programme is an ideal opportunity to develop transferable leadership skills and gain real work experience in the education and sporting sector.

All students on our Leadership Academy can access a range of support and benefits when taking part in any of our opportunities. Our leaders will:

  • network with fellow student leaders to meet new people.
  • receive UoN Sport branded kit.

Skills you'll need

We're looking for leaders who;

  • are confident in their chosen sport to deliver quality sessions.
  • are friendly with an inclusive approach.
  • have an interest in sport and physical activity.
  • are passionate about developing sport and activity opportunities.
  • the ability to work well in a team.
  • the ability to work independently as needed.

It would also be beneficial, but not essential, to have experience working with young people.

Leaders on the Sport in Schools programme will need to be confident in their chosen sport to be able to deliver quality sessions for the schoolchildren. 

Yes, leaders on the Sport in School programme are recruited through our sports club programme and deliver their sport as a club team. Please contact your club committee to find out how you can get involved.

All sessions are based in primary and secondary schools around the Nottingham area. All travel expenses are covered for volunteers, along with any other costs you may incur. 

Yes, all volunteers will be required to complete a DBS check. Our team will help you with this process.
