Last weekend, University of Nottingham tennis players competed in the BUCS Individual Doubles Championships at Warwick University. The University entered the most pairs of any institution to the event highlighting the incredible amount of talent that currently competes for the #GreenandGold. University of Nottingham teams were entered into both the men's and women's draws, competing in a knockout format that consisted of 32 doubles pairs for each.
This meant that there was always the possibility of an all University of Nottingham showdown at some point in the competition, and that happened in the men's with Luis Humberto and Patrick Foley facing off against Aziz Kijametovic and Jamie Crowfoot. Luis and Patrick came out on top on this occasion, making their way through the rest of the field to reach the final. After a gutsy performance, they eventually came away with the silver medal which is a fantastic achievement.
In the women's competition, the #GreenandGold team of Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Annemarie Emme also performed exceptionally well. Matching their male counterparts, Noppawan and Annemarie progressed through the draw with some fine tennis and earned a place in the final on Sunday 21st November. In the final, the pair continued their brilliant play and won the match to become BUCS Tennis Double Champions! Showing no sign of nerves and using all of her big match experience, Noppawan decisively slammed a backhand serve return up the line to seal the trophy to top off a stellar weekend for the university and our tennis club.
Congratulations to both Noppawan and Annemarie on their victory, and a huge well done to Luis, Patrick, and every single member of the #GreenandGold who performed so well at the championships. We look forward to the continued success of our tennis programme.
