Member notice: Swimming pool entrance closure

The doors at our swimming pool entrance will close on Monday 18 December 2017 for general access.

We kindly request that all users now use the main David Ross Sports Village reception to access the building. Please click here for the route to the swimming pool.

However we do recognise that some customers with a disability or long-term medical condition may find this arrangement challenging. With that in mind, alternative entrance through the side doors closest to the swimming pool via swipe card may be arranged.

Should you wish to make use of this arrangement, please complete the self-declaration form online here or in person via our David Ross main reception or swimming pool reception.

Access will be granted at the discretion of our Disability Sport Officer and applications must be received in order to be considered.

As part of these changes, the reception area at the swimming pool will also close from Monday 22 January 2018. All services, including sales of swimwear and goggles are available for members and visitors to purchase at the David Ross main reception.

Information relating to the above has been available to customers since opening in October 2016 and were planned as part of the David Ross Sports Village construction. These changes will enable lifeguards to more efficiently manage the swimming pool environment and will not result in a reduction in staffing levels. We would also like to re-assure all our customers that the David Ross Sports Village remains fully DDA compliant.

We’re pleased to now introduce a system of alternative access for our customers to enter the sports centre safely and move to a central access point and reception services for our members.

For more information, please read our FAQs below or contact us at sport@nottingham.ac.uk.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the swimming pool door available as an accessible entrance only?

As part of the David Ross Sports Village project a link corridor has been constructed to join the swimming pool area with all other facilities. As part of the building development, a central reception area for all facilities was constructed.

Due to member feedback, we have allowed access via the swimming pool door for low-mobility and disabled users and are pleased to now have a secure system in place to allow for swipe access for these customers only from Monday 18 December.

As advised on the swimming pool door since October 2016, other users are kindly asked to use the main David Ross entrance to access the building.

Operating a single reception area allows us to ensure the security of the building for all users and ensure that facilities are used by members and paying guests only.

I am a low mobility / disabled customer – how can I arrange access?

If you have a disability or reduced mobility and would like to activate access via the swimming pool door, please complete the self-declaration form online or in person via our David Ross main reception or swimming pool reception.

Access will be granted at the discretion of our Disability Sport Officer and applications must be received in order to be considered.

I have access granted to the swimming pool accessible door but my card isn’t working – what can I do?

If you have any issue gaining access via your card – please ring the assistance bell and a member of our team will be there shortly to help.

My pool session starts at 6.30 – will I have time to get changed to start on time?

External clubs using the swimming pool may gain entry through the main David Ross Sports Village reception at 6.20am to allow enough time to change and commence your session on time.

All other members will be allowed to access the facility at 6.30am – this is applicable to all users, whether accessing the pool or our 3G facilities at the other end of the David Ross Sports Village.

I / my child takes part in your Swim School – how can we access the pool?

All swimming lesson participants and /or parents / guardians will be given an access card from the main David Ross Sports Village reception. Please leave extra time before your first lesson to collect this from our team.

This will enable self-swipe access at the main and swimming pool turnstiles.

I / my child are involved in an external club that uses the pool – how can we access the pool?

Please enter via the main David Ross Sports Village reception and let our reception team know which session you are attending so that can allow you entry.

During these sessions a member of our lifeguard team will be present at the swimming pool turnstiles to allow access to the pool.

I pay per visit for swimming pool access. How can I pay for my swim?

All External Pool and Classic Club members have now been issued with a membership card – if lost, please purchase a replacement card at the David Ross Sports Village main reception for £5.

If you are using the David Ross Sports Village main entrance, then you can pay for your swim via a member of our reception team.

If you are using the accessible swimming pool entrance, you will be able to pre-pay for your visit via our main reception team. You can pre-pay over the telephone on 0115 74 87000 or at our reception desk.

When you arrive for your swim please use your membership card to enter through the main reception turnstiles and ring our assistance bell at the swimming pool turnstiles. A member of our team will then allow you entry and remove a swim credit from your account.

I have a pushchair or use a wheelchair. How can I entre through the swimming pool turnstiles?

Please ring our assistance bell at the swimming pool turnstiles and a member of our team will then allow you entry to the swimming pool.

I’d like to purchase swimwear / equipment – where can I do this?

The shop at the David Ross Sports Village main reception stocks a wide range of Speedo products. We will also shortly be installing a Speedo vending machine in the area next to the link corridor. This will stock a number of products including goggles and accessories.

I’ve parked by the swimming pool – can I still use the swimming pool door?

Unfortunately the swimming pool entrance is for disabled and low mobility users only. Please note, we also have parking available at Nightingale Hall or on Beeston Lane.

I’ve lost my membership / access card – what should I do?

Replacement cards are available from main reception at a cost of £5.00.

If you are a staff, student or associate member then please purchase a replacement card via the UoN Security Office situated at the Hallward Library.

What happens if there is a fire alarm?

The swimming pool accessible door will operate as a standard fire exit during an alarm – please follow the  instructions of the UoN Sport team to safely exit the building.
