As part of our ongoing commitment to improve our facilities whilst reducing our impact on the environment, the swimming pool at David Ross Sports Village will be temporarily closed from Monday 24 May to Sunday 30 May inclusive.
During this time, there will be no member or pay-as-you-go swim, however, organised club sessions and external block bookings will remain unaffected.
Whilst reduced access to the pool will be disappointing for many, the temporary closure will enable University of Nottingham Sport and Forge Leisure to install a swimming pool cover. In addition, partners at Europa Electrical will be installing new LED lighting to further improve energy efficiencies whilst also providing an enhanced customer experience.
These upgrades are part of the University’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and will result in significant reduction in energy consumption, thus reducing our carbon footprint with regard to both gas and electricity usage.
When the pool re-opens on Monday 31 May, we have also implemented the following changes to improve the customer experience:
- Both lane and social swim sessions will be available – please look out for these changes on our bookings site. You will be able to book ‘lane swim’ where only lane provision will be available, ‘swim session’ where both lane and social swim will be available, or ‘deep water swim’ where lane swimming will be available but our floor will be at a depth not suitable for less proficient swimmers.
- Swimming pool bookings will be extended to 90 minutes to include time for arrival, changing before and after.
- Increased the booking capacity in line with Swim England guidance enabling more booking slots available throughout the week. To accommodate this, lockers and cubicles will no longer be allocated to individuals – our changing rooms are cleaned and sanitised on a regular basis but we encourage our members to make use of the sanitisation equipment before and after use.
The team are working hard to reduce the impact of this temporary pool closure on our facility users so there is a possibility that the works may be completed before Sunday 30 May.
Bookings will be made available to members and pay-as-you-go users as soon as we can open the pool so please do log-in to your account online from Friday 28 May onwards and check our social media pages regularly for further updates.
