Youth Futsal taken to the next level at UoN Academy

The past couple of weeks have been the busiest of the year for the UoN Futsal Academy. On Friday 25 June, the Academy hosted their second "Schools Cup" with nine primary schools from around Nottinghamshire descending on Jubilee Sports Centre for an afternoon's futsal action to help promote the benefits of the sport to local school children and raise awareness of the youth program. All players played with enthusiasm and did the schools proud with Whitemoor Academy eventually being crowned as Champions.

On Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 July, the biggest event of the season was held, again at Jubilee Sports Centre. 28 teams from across the country played over four age divisions. With over 190 players participating the action was fast and furious and it was "standing room only" for spectators in the viewing gallery!

The U10 division was dominated by FFA from Loughborough as they took home the plate and cup awards. FFA was also successful in the U12 division winning the cup, albeit with a penalty shootout against YMCA Grimsby. City of Peterborough Futsal won the U12 plate to round off a great first day's action.

The Sunday saw the U14 and U16's take centre stage where the skill level did not disappoint! Each player represented their club admirably. The U14 plate was won by very our own UoN Academy 'White' and the U14 Cup was won by Long Eaton United who managed to edge out UoN Academy 'Green' in the final on penalties. UoN Academy U16 managed to claim the U16 cup to round of a very successful weekend of futsal action.

The Academy resumes in September, welcoming both new and returning players, you can find out more information on playing or volunteering on their website or email the Director of Youth Futsal, Daniel Smith at e: academy.uonfutsal@gmail.com .
