Winter 2020 Graduation - Emails to Students

This page will be updated as emails are sent to our winter graduating Class of 2020.

Email sent on Tuesday 1 December 2020

It's almost time...

For those of you who are planning on graduating, we are writing to confirm that Friday 11 December is the date your award will be conferred and you will officially graduate. To reiterate, while you are graduating on this date and will thereafter receive your degree certificate in the post, this day of celebration is not your formal graduation ceremony. You will be invited back to the University when it is safe for us to host such an event again.

However, we still want to mark this special day and so have been working with schools to celebrate this fantastic milestone and your achievements. This is a chance to celebrate with your friends and family and global community of fellow students, teachers and staff for a celebration without borders.

The day itself

Your schools will be getting in touch with their plans for the day, so do keep an eye out for messages from them, which could include invites to online events, prize-giving and virtual yearbooks.

Please make sure you follow us on social media (especially Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) – we're on there with the handles @UniOfNottingham, @UniOfNottAlumni and @nottinghamalumni (along with any school specific handles!) and the hashtag #WeAreUoN.

We would love for you to get involved as well and would love to see your posts and celebrations on the day itself. Some things we could suggest you do include:

  • Show us how you are celebrating all around the world and what your day will look like
  • Get your friends and family involved with well-wishes
  • Share videos, photos and stories of your time at Nottingham
  • Tell us what you plan to do next!
  • ...and if you have a pet that might want to join in your celebrations, we would love to see the best animal graduation garb!

Just don't forget to use #WeAreUoN to tag us in your celebration day selfies and posts!

Finally, a few reminders...

We are providing all Class of 2020 graduates with both e-certificates and hard-copy certificates. E-certificates will be sent out as soon as possible after 11 December. Hard-copy certificates will be posted out in January 2021.

Before you graduate, don't forget to also opt-in to receive alumni communications to ensure that you can benefit from everything your alumni community has to offer you.

As is tradition, you are still able to purchase bespoke University of Nottingham, Class of 2020 clothing from Campus Clothing. We recommend you consider early ordering as delivery times are taking longer than usual. Orders can be placed on their website.

That's it for now. Sit back, relax and let the countdown begin.

Email sent on Monday 9 November 2020

We hope you and your family are well.

As part of our unique graduating Class of 2020, we want to reassure you that everything is on track for you to graduate this winter as planned, albeit not in the normal way. We appreciate the uncertainty of these times, but will do everything we can to ensure you are supported over the coming months and beyond.

In line with Government advice, the University of Nottingham will not be holding physical graduation ceremonies this winter. Instead, you will graduate in absentia and your certificate will be posted to you. There is no option to defer your graduation this year.

Please be assured that we will be inviting you to a special graduation ceremony at a point when it is safe to host such an event on campus again. We know how important it is for you to share this celebration with your family and friends and want to give you every opportunity to enjoy the experience you and they deserve. While we are unable to welcome you onto campus this winter, the University would still like to take the opportunity to celebrate your achievements as our graduating Class of 2020.

We therefore invite you to hold Friday 11 December 2020 in your diary for a day of online celebrations. United by the hashtag #WeAreUoN, we want to bring you together virtually; with each other, with your schools and teachers, as well as with your new global community of alumni – for a graduation without borders.
